The Correze [ kɔʀɛːz ] ( Occitan Corresa ) is the French department of 19 with the ordinal number It is the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine in the center of the country and after the river Corrèze named.
geography
The Correze borders in the northwest of the department of Haute-Vienne , in the north of the Creuse , in the northeast of the Puy-de-Dôme , in the southeast on the Cantal , on the south by the department of Lot and the west by the department Dordogne .
The department is located in the northwest of the Massif Central . The northeast of the department is part of the Plateau de Millevaches with Mont Bessou as the highest point of the Limousin . In the Plateau de Millevaches rises the eponymous Corrèze , which flows through the department in a south-westerly direction and flows into the Vézère as a left tributary near the capital Brive-la-Gaillarde in the south-west . The most important river is the Dordogne , which forms part of the eastern border with the Puy-de-Dôme and Cantal departments and then cuts through the Corrèze department in the southeast.
history
It was formed on March 4, 1790 from part of the Limousin Province . It also belonged to the Limousin region from 1960 to 2015 , which became part of the Nouvelle Aquitaine region in 2016 .
