The Tarn-et-Garonne [ taʀnegaʀɔn (] . Okzitan : Tarn e Garona ) is the French department with the atomic number 82. It is in the south of the country in the region Okzitanien and was named after the rivers Tarn and Garonne named.

geography

The Tarn-et-Garonne department borders on the Lot , Aveyron , Tarn , Haute-Garonne , Gers and Lot-et-Garonne departments .

history

The Département Tarn-et-Garonne is not one of the 83 "Départements of the first hour" created by the decree of December 22nd, 1789 of the constituent national assembly , but was formed later at the time of the First Empire . By Napoleon's decree of November 21, 1808, it was formed from parts of the Lot départements (the localities of Montauban and Moissac ), Haute-Garonne (the locality of Castelsarrasin ), Lot-et-Garonne, Gers and Aveyron.

It belonged to the Midi-Pyrénées region from 1960 to 2015 , which was added to the Occitania region in 2016 .
