Pleaux ( Occitan : Pleus ) is a French municipality with 1489 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Cantal in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Mauriac and the canton of Mauriac (until 2015 the canton of Pleaux ).

geography

Pleaux is about 28 kilometers northwest of Aurillac . The municipality of Tourniac is an exclave north of the rest of the municipality; this is bounded in the north by the Dordogne , the rest of the community in the south by the Maronne . The Incon , a tributary of the Maronne, crosses the municipality. Pleaux is surrounded by Soursac and Chalvignac in the north, Brageac , Chaussenac , Barriac-les-Bosquets and Ally in the north and northeast, Sainte-Eulalie in the east , Besse in the southeast, Saint-Martin-Cantalès and Arnac in the southwest, Saint-Julien- aux-Bois in the west and Rilhac-Xaintrie in the west and northwest.

The former route nationale 680 (today's D680) runs through the municipality .

history

In 1972 Pleaux was formed from the previously independent municipalities Loupiac , Saint-Christophe-les-Gorges and Tourniac .
