The Canton Pleaux was 2015 a French canton in the department of Cantal and in the former region Auvergne . It comprised eight parishes in the Mauriac arrondissement ; its main town (French: chef-lieu ) was Pleaux .

history

The canton was founded on March 4, 1790 as part of the establishment of the départements as part of the then "District de Mauriac". With the creation of the arrondissements on February 17, 1800, the canton was assigned to the arrondissement Mauriac and redesigned. The nationwide changes in the composition of the cantons resulted in its dissolution in March 2015.

At the time, the canton bordered the canton of Mauriac to the north and northeast , the canton of Salers to the southeast, the cantons of Saint-Cernin and Laroquebrou in the Aurillac district to the south, and the Saint-Privat canton in the Tulle district in the Corrèze department to the west , Limousin region .
