Lanobre is a French commune with 1,419 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the Cantal in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Mauriac and the canton of Ydes (until 2015: canton of Champs-sur-Tarentaine-Marchal ).

Lanobre is about 45 kilometers southwest of Clermont-Ferrand . The dammed Dordogne limits the municipality to the west. Lanobre is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Beaulieu and Trémouille-Saint-Loup in the north, Cros in the north and north-east, Champs-sur-Tarentaine-Marchal in the south and east, Bort-les-Orgues in the south-west and Sarroux-Saint Julien with Sarroux in the west .
