Le Monteil is a French municipality with 670 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Haute-Loire in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes (before 2016 Auvergne ); it belongs to the arrondissement Le Puy-en-Velay and the canton Le Puy-en-Velay-2 (until 2015 Le Puy-en-Velay-Nord ).

Le Monteil is located about four kilometers northeast of Le Puy-en-Velay on the Loire . Le Monteil is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Polignac in the north and west, Chaspinhac in the north and northeast, Saint-Germain-Laprade in the east and southeast, Brives-Charensac in the south and Chadrac in the west and southwest.
