Cayres is a French municipality with 729 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Haute-Loire in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . The place belongs to the canton of Velay volcanique .

geography

The municipality is located at the foot of the Massif du Devès , a mountain range between the Loire and Allier valleys , about 17 kilometers south of Le Puy-en-Velay . The Gagne and Beaume rivers , which both drain into the Loire, have their source in the municipality . In the mountains of the Devès there is a 44 hectare, circular maar lake of volcanic origin, called Lac du Bouchet .
