Vernassal is a French municipality with 355 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Haute-Loire in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes (before 2016 Auvergne ); it belongs to the arrondissement of Le Puy-en-Velay and the canton of Saint-Paulien (until 2015: canton Allègre ).

Vernassal is about 20 kilometers northwest of Le Puy-en-Velay . Vernassal is surrounded by the neighboring communities Allègre in the north, Céaux-d'Allègre in the east and northeast, Lissac in the east and southeast, Vazeilles-Limandre in the south and southwest and Fix-Saint-Geneys in the west.
