Craponne-sur-Arzon is located in the Velay countryside on the Arzon River , a tributary of the Loire . Craponne-sur-Arzon is surrounded by the neighboring communities Sauvessanges in the north, Usson-en-Forez in the north-east, Saint-Georges-Lagricol in the east and south-east, Beaune-sur-Arzon in the south and south-west, Jullianges in the west, Saint-Victor- sur-Arlanc in the west and north-west and Saint-Jean-d'Aubrigoux in the north-west.
The former route nationale 498 (today's D498) runs through the municipality .
