Sauvessanges is located about 60 kilometers southeast of Clermont-Ferrand in the Livradois-Forez Regional Nature Park . The ance limits the community to the east. Neighboring municipalities of Sauvessanges are Viverols in the north, Usson-en-Forez in the east, Craponne-sur-Arzon in the south, Saint-Jean-d'Aubrigoux in the south-west and Medeyrolles in the west and north-west.
