Marat is a French municipality with 816 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Puy-de-Dôme in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes (before 2016 Auvergne ). Marat is part of the Arrondissement of Ambert and the canton of Les Monts du Livradois ( Olliergues until 2015 ).

Marat is about 53 kilometers east-southeast of Clermont-Ferrand in the Livradois and on the Dore River . Marat is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Olliergues in the north and north-west, Olmet in the north, Le Brugeron in the north and north-east, Saint-Pierre-Bourlhonne in the east, Vertolaye in the east and south-east, Bertignat in the south, La Chapelle-Agnon in the south-west and Saint- Gervais-sous-Meymont to the west and north-west.
