Stephan Starischka

Stephan Starischka (born February 25,  1946 in Hanau ) is a German sports scientist .

career

Starischka went to school in Hanau and graduated from high school in 1966. From 1966 to 1972 he studied physical education, biology and pedagogy at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University  in Frankfurt am Main . He then worked as a research assistant at Frankfurt University and as a teacher for sport and biology at a school in Hanau. In December 1977 Starischka completed his doctoral thesis in the subject of educational science with a biomechanical thesis with Rainer Ballreich (for optimizing motor skills from the field of technical-compositional sports ).

This was followed, among other things, by further teaching positions at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University, and in 1981 he took up a professorship for sports science at the Technical University of Dortmund . He held this until 2011.

Starischka was Dean of Faculty 16 at Dortmund University between 1989 and 1992 and Managing Director of the Institute for Sport and its Didactics from 1992 to 1994.

From 1975 to 1981 he was a consultant to the Federal Committee for Competitive Sport and the managing editor of the magazine “ Leistungssport” before he was appointed to the honorary editorial board of the same magazine from 1981 to 2011, and he also held several offices at the German Sports Association (DSB) (including from 1985 until 1995 member of the coordination commission of the DSB's trainer academy; from 1983 to 1988 member of the sub-commission 'training control'). Between 1986 and 2005 Starischka sat on the supervisory committee of the Dortmund-based Olympic base . From 2006 to 2010 he was a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Federal Institute for Sport Science , Bonn (BISP).

In 2010 Starischka was awarded the TU Dortmund teaching award.

The main focus of Starischka's work in sports science included training aspects such as conditioning, training planning and fitness training. He has published several books on these topics as sole or co-author. In addition, he also dealt with the topic of talent search and promotion.
