The Olympiastützpunkt NRW / Westphalia in the Landessportbund Nordrhein-Westfalen e. V. is a cross-sport support and service facility for top-class sport for national squad athletes and outstanding state squads and their coaches.

history

Today's Olympic training center NRW / Westphalia emerged in 1994 from the merger of the Olympic training centers Ruhr-Ost and Warendorf Münsterland, which had been operating until then.

The first so-called Olympic training centers were founded in 1987 in metropolitan areas at some locations with good sports facility infrastructure or with recognized sports science institutions in order to implement comprehensive and the resulting financially expensive training support for all Olympic sports.

Her main task is to ensure high quality, complex sports medicine, physiotherapeutic, training and movement science, social, psychological and nutritional support, especially for the Olympic preparation of the top team in daily training or central measures of the leading associations.

Since January 1, 2019, the sponsorship of all three Olympic training centers in North Rhine- Westphalia (Westphalia, Rhine-Ruhr and Rhineland ) has been transferred to the State Sports Association of North Rhine- Westphalia . The name of the Olympic base in Dortmund is now "Olympic base NRW / Westphalia im Landessportbund NRW eV".

Thomas Friedhoff is the head of OSP Westphalia.
