The Olympiastützpunkt NRW / Rhein-Ruhr in the Landessportbund Nordrhein-Westfalen e. V. is a cross-sport support and service facility for top-class sport for national squad athletes and outstanding state squads and their coaches.

history

The Olympic base in North Rhine-Westphalia / Rhine-Ruhr was initially founded in 1987 under the sponsorship of the “Verein pro Ruhrgebiet” with the OSP headquarters in Duisburg.

At the end of 1989, on the one hand, there was a transition to the independent “Olympic Support Center Ruhr-West eV” association, which is registered in the association register, and the location was changed to Essen on the premises of the Alfried-Krupp Hospital . This location was chosen against the background of expanding the already existing good cooperation with the hospital. According to the catchment area of the Olympic base, which includes the regions of Essen, Dusseldorf, Duisburg, Grefrath, Krefeld, Mülheim and Wuppertal, the name was changed in 1996 to "Supporting Association of the Olympic Base Rhine-Ruhr".

Since January 1, 2019, the sponsorship of all three Olympic training centers in North Rhine- Westphalia ( Westphalia , Rhine-Ruhr and Rhineland ) has been transferred to the State Sports Association of North Rhine- Westphalia. The name of the Olympic base in Essen is now "Olympic base NRW / Rhein-Ruhr im Landessportbund NRW eV".

Volker Lauer is the head of OSP NRW / Rhein-Ruhr.
