Rowing Academy Ratzeburg

The rowing academy in Ratzeburg is the central location of the main sport rowing of the Olympic base Hamburg / Schleswig-Holstein , federal base of the German Rowing Association and the state performance center of the rowing association Schleswig-Holstein . It is located in Ratzeburg on the Domhof on Lake Ratzeburg .

history

The rowing academy was founded in 1966 under Karl Adam , who was the coach of the Germany eight at the time and was able to achieve two Olympic victories with it. The eighth trained at the rowing academy back then. Adam remained director until his death in 1976 when Jürgen Zander succeeded him as director of the academy. At the end of the 1980s, the academy was threatened with closure due to inadequate facilities, but this could be averted through modernization.

The facilities have been used by senior athletes from the German Rowing Association since the academy was founded. The association also offers advanced training, seminars and trainer license courses.

In the rowing academy's sports boarding school in Ratzeburg , young rowers from the age of 15 can pursue a coordinated academic and sporting career.

Furnishing

In the rowing academy building there are several single and double rooms for athletes and coaches with a total of 38 beds. In addition, a seminar room and lounges as well as a sports hall and boat halls with various rowing boats and motorized support boats are available. The rowing training takes place from the rowing academy on the Küchensee in the Albano system or, if there is little swell, on the larger Ratzeburg lake.
