The Küchensee , also called Großer Küchensee , is a lake in the Duchy of Lauenburg in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein . The lake is about 180 hectares and up to 14.7 m deep. Together with the Ratzeburger See and the Kleiner Küchensee, it encloses the island town of Ratzeburg . The division into the large and small Küchensee came about when dams were raised between the lakeshore and cathedral island.
The Ratzeburger Kleinbahn crossed the lake on the Kleinbahn embankment until Kleinbahn AG was dissolved on March 31, 1934 and the tracks were then dismantled.
The Ratzeburg rowing club operates a modern regatta course on the Küchensee , on which a large rowing regatta is organized every year .
