history

The federal base in Dortmund can build on a long tradition in rowing and canoeing . Right next to each other on the Dortmund-Ems Canal are the club houses of the canoeists of the Free Sports Club from 1898 (FS 98), the Rowing Club Germania from 1929 and the Rowing Club Hansa from 1898 with modern jetties. Due to the sporting successes, the boathouse of the RC Hansa developed into a center of excellence, since 1976 the RC Hansa has been the official federal base for rowers. Klaus Walkenhorst was the first base manager, he filled this position until 1991 and from 1996 to 2008. During the break, Ludwig Blömeke was the head of the base.
