Bertignat is located about 43 kilometers east-southeast of Clermont-Ferrand in the Livradois-Forez Regional Nature Park and on the Dore River , which borders the municipality to the east. Bertignat's neighboring municipalities are Marat in the north, Vertolaye in the northeast, Job in the east, Ambert in the south and southeast, Tholières in the south, Grandval in the west and La Chapelle-Agnon in the west and northwest.
