Saint-Germain-l'Herm is located about 61 kilometers south-east of Clermont-Ferrand in the Livradois-Forez Regional Nature Park on the upper reaches of the Doulon River . Neighboring municipalities of Saint-Germain-l'Herm are Aix-la-Fayette in the north, Fournols in the north and northeast, Chambon-sur-Dolore in the northeast, Saint-Bonnet-le-Chastel in the east, and Saint-Bonnet-le-Bourg in the East and south-east, Fayet-Ronaye in the south, Peslières in the south-west, Sainte-Catherine in the west and south-west, Le Vernet-Chaméane with Vernet-la-Varenne in the west and Saint-Genès-la-Tourette in the north-west.
