The airfield, located in the Po Valley at the foot of the Ligurian Apennines , has a 1050 meter long and 30 meter wide grass runway oriented 18/36. To the east of this are aprons, hangars and other handling facilities. The airfield is used for general aviation , in particular for gliding . The place is operated by the local glider club Associazione Sportiva Volo a Vela Novi , which also runs a flying school on site .
history
The airfield was opened as a military airfield on July 17, 1917 . After the First World War , it initially had the status of a military emergency landing site, but was mainly used for civilian purposes. In 1932 the military took it over again, expanded it and used it as a location for various hunting and reconnaissance squads until the Second World War . From 1947 to 1962 the airfield also served as a commercial airport for the city of Genoa , because the airport there , built in the harbor basin, could not be inaugurated until 1962. In 1947, Eva Perón , the wife of the Argentine President landed in Novi Ligure. In 1954, the University of Bristol used the airfield for aerostatic experiments. The military use of the airfield ended in 1976, the remaining, small military part was completely abandoned in 2005 and is becoming increasingly dilapidated. The airfield was named after Eugenio Mossi, a test pilot from Spineto Scrivia , who had a fatal accident in Turin in 1925 .
