Seed cleaning
Seed cleaning is the process in which seeds are previously cleaned manually, today they are mechanically cleaned of weed seeds and other contaminants and, if necessary, sorted into uniform grain sizes.
Procedure
Seed cleaning takes place in cleaning systems provided for this purpose, which mainly work according to the wind sweep , trieur and / or sieving process . Seeds, damaged seeds (broken grains), weed seeds, stones and other material are first separated in a wind sweep due to their different densities . Then seeds can be separated in a trieur according to their shape and size.

Effects
Seed cleaning delivers homogeneous batches of seed that are free of contamination and weed seeds. An example of the health improvement through seed cleaning is the ability to remove components that promote ergot infestation after sowing .
