Lucien Laferté (born March 19, 1919 in Saint-François-du-Lac , † November 14, 2012 in Trois-Rivières ) was a Canadian ski jumper .
Career
Laferté began ski jumping in the late 1930s. After a short time he was convincing in regional tournaments with good distances and good jumping style. He was then nicknamed "The Flying Cowboy". At the national level, however, Laferté only achieved initial successes after the Second World War .
At the Canadian Championships in 1947, he secured his first national title in singles. He was then nominated for the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz . One month before the games, he sustained a serious injury in a preparatory competition in Switzerland and was unable to start.
He made his comeback in 1949 when he won his second national title. He then traveled with the team to the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1950 . There, however, he injured his shoulder and was unable to position himself again. At the Canadian Championships in 1951, Laferté secured his third title. He was then accepted again into the national selection team and traveled to the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo . There he fell in the individual from the normal hill at 61 meters and was only 42nd out of 44 starters. In the second round he was able to improve to 41st place with a jump to 59.5 meters.
At the Canadian Championships in 1952 Laferté tried to defend his title. But he was not allowed to do so due to another arm injury. He missed qualifying for the 1956 Winter Olympics . Laferté still jumped at the national level until the 1960s before finally ending his career.
