Schönbrunn im Steigerwald (officially Schönbrunn i.Steigerwald ) is a municipality in the Upper Franconian district of Bamberg and a member of the Burgebrach administrative community .

history

Until the church is planted

The Bamberg Bishop Berthold von Leiningen acquired Schönbrunn Palace and the village in 1280. The office established there was gradually incorporated into the Burgebrach office between the early 16th and mid-18th centuries. As part of the Bamberg monastery , Schönbrunn belonged to the Franconian Empire from 1500 . Since the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803, the place, like large parts of Franconia, has belonged to Bavaria (see also History of Franconia ). In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , the community of Schönbrunn was created with the community edict of 1818 .

Name change

On March 28, 1974, the name of the community was officially changed from Schönbrunn to Schönbrunn im Steigerwald.

Incorporations

Before 1972, only Oberneuses and Niederndorf belonged to the Schönbrunn community. As part of the regional reform in Bavaria , the municipalities of Grub (with Frenshof), Halbersdorf, Steinsdorf and Zettmannsdorf (with Fröschhof) were incorporated on May 1, 1978.

In the period from 1988 to 2018, the community grew from 1739 to 1835 by 96 inhabitants or 5.5%. A peak was reached on December 31, 2003 with 1956 inhabitants.

The first mayor since 2020 has been Dirk Friesen (CSU), who prevailed in the first ballot against the incumbent Georg Hollet (civic bloc), who has been in office since 2008, with 61.24% of the vote.

His predecessor Georg Hollet won the runoff election in 2008 with 52.85% of the vote against Otmar Oppelt (CSU) and was just re-elected in 2014 with 50.67%. Hollet's predecessor was Hans Baier (civic bloc) from 1984 to 2008, who was last elected in 2002 with 89.45% of the vote, with no opponent.

In the 2020/2026 electoral period, the municipal council consists of 5 members from the CSU , 3 from the BBL (Citizens' Block), 3 from the Steinsdorf Open List (OLS) and 1 from the ABL (Alternative Citizens List).

In the 2008/2014 election period, the municipal council consisted of 4 members from the CSU , 4 from the BBL (Citizens' Block), 2 from the ABL (Alternative Citizens List) and 2 from the Steinsdorf Open List (OLS). The CWG no longer competed.

In the local council elections in 2002, the CSU had 5 councilors, the BBL had 5 and the CWG (Christian Voting Association) had 2.

In 1998, according to official statistics, there were no employees at the place of work in the manufacturing sector or in trade and transport who were subject to social security contributions. In other economic areas 39 people were employed at the place of work subject to social security contributions. There were a total of 696 employees at the place of residence subject to social security contributions. There were eight companies in the manufacturing sector and six in the construction sector. In addition, in 1999 there were 56 farms with an agriculturally used area of ​​1188 hectares, 982 hectares of which were arable land and 199 hectares of permanent green area.

Breweries

The Seelmann brewery in Zettmannsdorf still exists in the area of ​​the municipality. In Schönbrunn itself, the Bähr brewery brewed until 2004 and the Wernsdörfer brewery until 2008, which is now brewed using the contract brewing process.
