Wage brewing

Lohnbrau is a technical term in the beer industry for the process that a brewery (mostly: large brewery) produces other beers in addition to its own branded beer - on behalf of another brewery (mostly: small breweries) - which are not under their own name but with a different brand name be put on the market.

This is not to be confused with the takeover of the trademark rights by the large brewery; rather, the company commissioning the brewery remains in existence and merely outsources the production. This can make economic sense, since it avoids costly investments in expensive brewing technology; This results in considerable synergy effects in terms of plant utilization . Lohnbrau also influences the quality and variety of beer. The contracting company (and thus the variety of brands) remains, and the beer is also produced in the wage brewery according to the client's recipe. Nevertheless, differences in taste can hardly be avoided when production is relocated due to the composition of the water and different production facilities.
