history
Until the church is planted
"Ratolfestor" was mentioned in a document for the first time in 783 and on February 3, 800. Until the secularization of 1803, the Benedictine monastery Michelsberg, which was incorporated into the Bamberg monastery, held local authority in Rattelsdorf. The ecclesiastical jurisdiction and the pastor belonged to the diocese of Würzburg . Since the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803, the place, like large parts of Franconia, has belonged to Bavaria (see also History of Franconia ). In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .
Administrative history
Until 1972, Rattelsdorf and Ebing as well as Busendorf with Poppendorf and Medlitz with Speiersberg and Hilkersdorf belonged to the district of Staffelstein . The district of Höfen with Höfenneusig and Freudeneck as well as Mürsbach with Zaugendorf and Helfenroth, however, belonged to the district of Ebern and thus to Lower Franconia until 1972 .
Incorporations
On July 1, 1972, the previously independent communities of Busendorf and Medlitz were incorporated. Ebing, Höfen and Mürsbach were added on May 1, 1978.

In the period from 1988 to 2018, the market grew from 3983 to 4630 by 647 inhabitants or 16.2%.

According to the census on May 9, 2011, 78.6% of the population are Roman Catholic and 11.4% Evangelical Lutheran. 10.0% have another religion or are non-denominational.

mayor
Mayor has been Bruno Kellner (United Area) from Freudeneck since 2005. His predecessor since 1990 was Gerhard Jäger (SPD), who prevailed in 2002 with 63.54% of the vote against his opponent Siegbert Tscherner (Ebinger list).
In the mayoral election in 2011, none of the four candidates won the first ballot with an absolute majority. Therefore, on April 10, 2011, there was a runoff election between Mayor Bruno Kellner (United Area) and Reinhard Schmid (SPD). Bruno Kellner won with 56.8% of the votes, Reinhard Schmid achieved 43.2%. In 2017, Kellner was confirmed unopposed with 82.7% of the vote.

In April 2009, Siegbert Tscherner resigned from the Ebinger list and has been a non-attached councilor ever since.

Economy and Infrastructure
Economy including agriculture and forestry
The Rattelsdorf market has four breweries : the Schwanenbräu in Ebing, the Endres brewery in Höfen, the Sonnäu in Mürsbach and the Fischer brewery in Freudeneck (the smallest town in the Bamberg district that has a brewery). Franconian beer and snack specialties are available in all four brewery restaurants. In the Medlitz part of the municipality, the Schwarzer Adler brewery existed until 1986 and the Feiler brewery in the Mürsbach part of the municipality until 2002.
In 1998, according to official statistics, there were no employees at the place of work in the manufacturing sector or in trade and transport who were subject to social insurance contributions. There were a total of 1673 employees at the place of residence subject to social security contributions. There was one company in the manufacturing sector and seven companies in the construction sector. In addition, in 1999 there were 108 farms with an agricultural area of 1729 hectares, of which 1294 hectares were arable land and 434 hectares were permanent green space.

There are voluntary fire departments in Busendorf, Ebing, Hilkersdorf, Höfen, Medlitz, Mürsbach, Rattelsdorf and Zaugendorf.
traffic
Federal road 4 leads through the municipality . Between October 1, 1913 and September 28, 1975, Rattelsdorf had a stop on the Breitengüßbach – Dietersdorf railway line . The construction of a commercial airfield north of Rattelsdorf at the district level was also temporarily under discussion. Corresponding plans have since been dropped after public protests.
