history
Until the 19th century
The first documentary mention of Ebensfeld was in 802, when the brothers Gerhart and Ippin bequeathed goods in “uillis”, including “Ebilihfeldono marcu”, to the Fulda monastery for their salvation.
The market right is documented for 1426, when the Bamberg Bishop Friedrich confirmed that three markets can be held annually in the "dorff Ebensuelt". The place belonged to the bishopric of Bamberg . In the 18th century, the Lichtenfels Bailiwick of the Bamberg Monastery ruled the village and the community.
When the railway line from Bamberg to Neuenmarkt was commissioned in 1846, the Ebensfeld station was opened. In 1862 Ebensfeld was incorporated, including the district of Kutzenberg, into the newly created Bavarian district office of Staffelstein . On August 28, 1892, the first fixed Main Bridge, an iron bridge with a clear width of 50 meters, was inaugurated.
District affiliation
On July 1, 1972, the Staffelstein district was dissolved in the course of the regional reform in Bavaria and Ebensfeld was added to the Lichtenfels district.
Religions
The majority of the population is Catholic (approx. 80%). 10% are Protestant, there are also members of other denominations and religions as well as non-denominational residents. In the area of the market there are four parishes with eleven branches, a curate and a branch church that does not belong to one of the parishes in the municipality. There are 17 churches in total.
- Parish of the Annunciation Ebensfeld with the branches Unterbrunn and Oberbrunn, Untereuses and Pferdefeld
- Parish of St. Martin Döringstadt with the branch Wiesen and the chapel in Neudorf
- Parish of St. Wolfgang Kleukheim with the branches Oberküps and Kümmel
- Parish of Mary Immaculate Conception Prächting with the branches Sträublingshof, Kutzenberg and the St. Vitus Chapel
- Kuratie Mariäänen Eggenbach with the Draisdorf branch
At Pentecost 2006, these districts joined together to form the pastoral care area Parish Association Ebensfeld.
Birkach is located in the area of the market, but belongs to the Medlitz Curate in pastoral care. Wiesen belongs in pastoral care to Döringstadt, politically to the city of Bad Staffelstein . At the request of the faithful, these peculiarities were retained when the pastoral care areas were established. At the same time, the believers in the Unterleiterbach branch decided to re-parish to the Zapfendorf parish, they also belong to the Zapfendorf community politically. Pastor Rudolf Scharf is the pastor for pastoral care.
The Evangelical Lutheran parish, to which the majority of the market belongs, is the parish of Resurrection Zapfendorf . A small part is assigned to the Trinity Church in Bad Staffelstein.

On July 1, 1972, the previously independent communities of Birkach, Messenfeld, Oberbrunn, Unterbrunn and Untersteuses were incorporated. On January 1, 1978, the communities of Dittersbrunn, Döringstadt, Eggenbach (with the Draisdorf community, which was incorporated in 1971, of the Draisdorf community, which was dissolved on April 1, 1971 and the Freiberg community, which was incorporated on January 1, 1975), Prächting and the Niederau district of the dissolved community Unterzettlitz incorporated.
