Marktgraitz is a market in the Upper Franconian district of Lichtenfels and a member of the Redwitz an der Rodach administrative community .

Geographical location

The market is located north of the Franconian Switzerland-Veldenstein Forest Nature Park at the confluence of the Steinach and Rodach rivers .

history

First mention and name change

The community was first mentioned in a deed of donation from 1071.

The community was initially called Graitz. In 1894 her name was officially changed to Marktgraitz.

Outsourcing

On January 1, 1977, the district of Neubrand with more than 100 inhabitants was ceded to the neighboring community of Schneckenlohe ( Kronach district ).

Population development

In the period from 1988 to 2018, the population fell from 1275 to 1140 by 135 or 10.6%, which is the most significant decrease in the number of inhabitants in the district in the period mentioned. On December 31, 2002, Marktgraitz had 1,398 inhabitants.
