Unterküps is a district of the Upper Franconian market Ebensfeld in the Lichtenfels district .

geography

The village is located in a narrow valley with wooded steep slopes east of the main valley , around seven kilometers from Ebensfeld. Unterküps is arranged in an east-west direction and is traversed by the Aschbach, a left tributary of the Main. The district road LIF 11 from Frauendorf to Kleukheim runs through the village.

history

Unterküps was mentioned for the first time before 1285 in the Bamberg Domnecrology from 1285 to 1287 regarding the anniversary foundation of Agnes "de Kvbezze". In 1801 there was a parish hall and 26 fiefdoms in Unterküps , nine of which belonged to the Bamberg prince-bishop and a mill with two grinding courses. The lords of the village owned the Lichtenfels office of the Bamberg prince-bishop .

In 1862, Unterküps was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian district office in Staffelstein . The village belonged to the rural community of Oberküps in the Staffelstein district court .

In 1871, Unterküps had 142 residents, all of whom were Catholic, and 72 buildings. The Catholic school was in Oberküps, one kilometer away, and the church was in Kleukheim, two kilometers away. In 1900 the 663.71 hectare rural community of Oberküps had 311 residents, Unterküps 129 residents and 27 residential buildings, and in 1925 130 people, all of whom were Catholic, in 23 residential buildings. In 1950 Oberküps had 147 residents and 23 residential buildings. The responsible Protestant parish was in Staffelstein . In 1970 the village had 117, in 1987 a total of 106 inhabitants and 21 houses with 23 apartments.

On July 1, 1972, the Staffelstein district was dissolved. Unterküps came to the Lichtenfels district and was incorporated into Kleukheim with Oberküps. On May 1, 1978, the municipality of Kleukheim was incorporated into Ebensfeld.

Attractions

The local Catholic chapel Herz-Jesu was built according to plans from 1908. The foundation stone was laid on August 15, 1911, the completion was on May 1, 1912 and the consecration in 1913. In 2011 the community carried out a renovation. It is a three-axis hall building with a three-sided end. The church tower dates from 1966 and replaced a roof turret over the west gable. The construction period equipment is designed in neo-Gothic forms.

In the Bavarian list of monuments , six monuments are listed for Unterküps .
