Kümmel is a district of the Upper Franconian market Ebensfeld in the Lichtenfels district .

geography

Kümmel is about five kilometers south-east of Ebensfeld in a side valley with wooded slopes east of the main valley . The village is arranged in an east-west direction and the Kümmelbach flows through it. A community road ending in Kümmel leads to Kleukheim .

history

Kümmel was first mentioned in a document in 1137, when Bamberg Bishop Otto was given property near Kemeritz to maintain the Sankt Getreu cell he had founded in the eastern part of the Michelsberg , which was later exchanged for "Chumele", among other things. In 1801 there was a community shepherd's house and 18 other houses with barns. The lords of the village owned the Lichtenfels office of the Bamberg prince-bishop .

In 1862, Kümmel was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian District Office Staffelstein . The rural community belonged to the Staffelstein District Court . In 1871, Kümmel had 105 inhabitants and 22 residential buildings. The Catholic school and church were in Kleukheim, 2.5 kilometers away . In 1900 the rural community had an area of ​​249.91 hectares, 96 residents, all of whom were Catholic, and 21 residential buildings. and in 1925 108 people in 18 residential buildings. In 1950 there were 98 residents and 17 residential buildings. The place belonged to the district of the Protestant parish Staffelstein. In 1970 Kümmel had 83 inhabitants and in 1987 65 inhabitants and 17 residential buildings with 17 apartments.

On July 1, 1971, Kümmel was incorporated into Kleukheim . On May 1, 1978, the municipality of Kleukheim was incorporated into the Ebensfeld market.

Attractions

The Catholic Chapel of St. Maria belongs to the parish of Kleukheim. The retracted choir was built in 1839, the three-axis nave was added in 1954. The uniaxial, roughly square choir is spanned by a flat plastered ceiling. The choir facade is divided into corner pilasters and door and window frames with sandstone apex stones. On the hipped choir roof there is a newer roof turret with an octagonal pointed helmet.
