Eggenbach is a district of the Upper Franconian market Ebensfeld in the Lichtenfels district .

geography

Eggenbach is located on the creek of the same name, in a side valley of the Itzgrund . The place is located in the Banzgau , an elongated triangle between the Itz and the Main , south of Banz Monastery , and is crossed by the LIF 8 district road. The Franconian Marienweg runs through the village .

history

When the whale council handed over his goods to Saint Boniface in "Echerbach" in the 9th century, the place was mentioned for the first time in the traditions of the Fulda monastery , which are based on a copy in the Codex Eberhardi from the 12th century. The next mention refers to the time from 1123 to 1147, when the abbot Hermann von Kloster Michelsberg acquired goods in "Echirbach".

1801 the place was part of the area of ​​the bishopric Bamberg . The bailiwick, village and community rule and the tithe belonged to the Michelsberg monastery. There were also five parish houses and one church hall. The diocese of Würzburg provided the responsible pastor in Döringstadt and the spiritual jurisdiction . In addition to an old church and the pilgrimage church, Eggenbach had a parish hall, the parish forge, a shepherd's house, a grinding mill and 43 other houses, mostly with barns.

In 1862 the Catholic Eggenbach was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian District Office Staffelstein . The rural community belonged to the district court of Seßlach . One part of the community was the Protestant hamlet of Erlhof .

In 1871 Eggenbach had 217 residents and 152 buildings. The Catholic school was in town. The church village belonged to the Catholic parish of the 3.5 kilometers away in Döringstadt . In 1900 the two places of the rural community Eggenbach covered an area of ​​533.48 hectares, 203 inhabitants and 47 residential buildings. 171 people lived in Eggenbach in 42 residential buildings and in 1925 187 people in 34 residential buildings. The responsible Protestant parish and school was in Lahm . In 1950 Eggenbach had 193 residents and 31 residential buildings. The place belonged to the district of the Catholic parish in Ebensfeld. In 1970 the parish had 182 inhabitants, and in 1987 a total of 160 inhabitants and 40 residential buildings with 43 apartments.

On July 1, 1972, the Staffelstein district was dissolved. Eggenbach was incorporated into the Lichtenfels district and Draisdorf was added as part of the municipality. Since January 1st 1978 Eggenbach belongs to Ebensfeld as a district.

Attractions

The Catholic Curate and Pilgrimage Church of the Virgin Mary dates from the beginning of the 18th century. It stands outside the village on a hill. In 1721 Eggenbach became an independent chaplain, in 1851 a curate .
