Niederau is a district of the Upper Franconian market Ebensfeld in the Lichtenfels district .

The village is located on the Main , in a loop between Main kilometers 413 and 414, around two kilometers northwest of Ebensfeld.

history

Niederau was first mentioned as "Niedernowe" in the Bamberg Bishop's Surbar, which was set up between 1326 and 1328 . A Main ferry between Döringstadt and Niederau was also mentioned in the land register. The location of the driving was good across from Niederau near the former monastery long domestic monk court . The ferry was the last in the Ebensfeld area to be stopped at the beginning of the 1960s.

In 1801 there was a community shepherd's house, 16 other houses and 14 barns in Niederau. The lords of the village owned the Lichtenfels office of the Bamberg prince-bishop . The village tenth belonged to the St. Clara nunnery in Bamberg . The place was parish after Ebensfeld. In 1862 Niederau was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian District Office Staffelstein . The village belonged to the rural community Unterzettlitz in the district court Staffelstein .

In 1871 Niederau had 105 inhabitants and 66 buildings. The Catholic school and church were in Ebensfeld, two kilometers away. In 1900 the 431.57 hectare rural community of Unterzettlitz had 248 inhabitants, all of whom were Catholic, and Niederau 71 inhabitants and 18 residential buildings. In 1925, 79 people, all of whom were Catholic, lived in 15 residential buildings. In 1950 Niederau had 103 residents and 16 residential buildings. The evangelical parish responsible was in Herreth . In 1970 the village had 66 inhabitants and in 1987 a total of 48 inhabitants as well as 13 houses with 14 apartments.

On July 1, 1972, the Staffelstein district was dissolved. Niederau was incorporated into the Lichtenfels district and in 1978 Ebensfeld was added as a part of the municipality.
