Unterzettlitz is a district of the Upper Franconian town of Bad Staffelstein in the Lichtenfels district .

Unterzettlitz is about ten kilometers southwest of Lichtenfels in the upper Main valley . In the center of the village, the houses are arranged in a semicircle around a former spring, later the extension took place as a street village. The district road LIF 20 runs through the village to Wiesen . To the west is the Bamberg – Hof railway line .

history

Unterzettlitz probably emerged as a Slavic village in the late 8th century.

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1272, when Heinrich von Sonneberg transferred goods in "Cedelicz" to Langheim Monastery , which Conrad von Michelau had given brother Cunemund von Lichtenfels. In the following centuries the place name was mostly Zettlitz under Staffelstein.

1801 belonged to the high centering the tax that village, community, and Lehen- Bailiwick rule the Office of the Bamberg cathedral chapter in Staffelstein. The residents were parish in Ebensfeld . The Baron Aufseß had a fiefdom, a quarter of which belonged to the Bamberg St. Clara Monastery and the rest to the Stenglinian and peasant heirs. The place had a parish hall, 23 other houses and 22 barns. In addition, there were two fiefs of the Langheim monastery with a house and barn. In 1860 the place name was changed from Zettlitz to Unterzettlitz. In 1862, Unterzettlitz and its Niederau district were incorporated into the newly created Bavarian district office of Staffelstein .

In 1875 Unterzettlitz had 192 residents and 116 buildings. The Catholic church and school were in Staffelstein, 2.4 kilometers away. Before 1890 a wooden beam bridge was built over the Main for a permanent connection between Wiesen and Unterzettlitz.

In 1900 the rural community Unterzettlitz with Niederau comprised an area of ​​431.57 hectares, 248 inhabitants, all of whom were Catholic, and 48 residential buildings. 177 people lived in Unterzettlitz in 30 residential buildings. In 1925 184 people lived in 31 residential buildings, in 1950 there were 242 residents and 29 residential buildings. In 1970 the place had 201 inhabitants and in 1987 323 inhabitants and 83 residential buildings.

On July 1, 1972, the Staffelstein district was dissolved and Unterzettlitz was incorporated into the Lichtenfels district. On January 1, 1978, Unterzettlitz was incorporated into Staffelstein without the Niederau district, which was assigned to Ebensfeld.

In 2009 Unterzettlitz won the silver medal in the competition Our village has a future - our village should become more beautiful .

Attractions

The Catholic Herz-Jesu Chapel was consecrated in 1887. Barbara Hennemann from Unterzettlitz had the church built by the Freiberg master mason Hemmerlein. The neo-Gothic sandstone block building with a gable roof originally had three pointed arch window axes. In his will decreed Barbara Hennemann expanding the chapel to a window bay, a tower with spire and equipment with high altar by the Staffelsteiner sculptor and painter stems. In 1897 the enlarged chapel was consecrated.
