Gößmitz is a district of the Upper Franconian town of Bad Staffelstein in the Lichtenfels district .

geography

Gößmitz is located about six kilometers east of Bad Staffelstein in Döbertengrund, through which the water-rich Döbertenbach flows to the west. The district road LIF 16 crosses the village.

history

Gößmitz was first mentioned in the late 14th century as "Gottzmetz" in the interest income of the abbot of Michelsberg Monastery . The next mention followed in 1413.

In 1801 Gößmitz was together with Serkendorf and Weisbrem the municipality Serkendorf, which was in the area of ​​the Bamberg bishopric . The Zent belonged to the Lichtenfels office of the Bamberg prince-bishop , the village, parish, fiefdom and bailiff to the Langheim monastery . The residents were parish in Uetzing . The place had seven houses with barns and a mill with two aisles, today's tick mill.

In 1862, the rural community, consisting of the village of Serkendorf and the hamlets of Gößmitz and Weisbrem, was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian district office of Staffelstein . In 1871 the hamlet of Gößmitz had 70 residents and 26 buildings. The Catholic school and church were in Uetzing, 1.5 kilometers away. In 1900 the rural community Serkendorf covered an area of ​​656.67 hectares, 177 inhabitants, of whom 176 were Catholic, and 33 residential buildings. 57 people lived in Gößmitz in 11 residential buildings. In 1925, 57 people lived in 11 residential buildings. In 1950 the spelling of the place name was still Gößmetz and the village had 97 inhabitants and 11 residential buildings. The responsible Protestant parish was in Staffelstein. In 1970 Gößmitz had 46 residents and in 1987 39 residents and 11 residential buildings.

On July 1, 1972, the Staffelstein district was dissolved and the Serkendorf community was incorporated into the Lichtenfels district. On January 1, 1978 the incorporation to Staffelstein followed.
