Loffeld is a district of the Upper Franconian town of Bad Staffelstein in the Lichtenfels district .

geography

The village is located at the southwestern foot of the Staffelberg in the valley of the Lauterbach, a left tributary of the Main .

history

Loffeld was first mentioned in 1272, when Bamberg's Bishop Berthold, among other things, donated the tithe in “Lochuelt” to the Sonnefeld monastery . This mention is questionable, however. It is certain that it was mentioned in 1416, when Staffelstein and the associated villages were separated from the Bamberg Propstei . The place name means field located by the forest .

In 1801 "Loffelt" belonged to the Bamberg Cathedral Chapter . The high cent , the tax, the village, community, fiefdom and bailiwick were due to the Staffelstein office. The village had a parish hall, 33 other houses, 29 barns, 4 barren farmsteads and a mill, the former Mohr mill. In 1862 Loffeld was incorporated as a district of the rural community of Horsdorf into the newly created Bavarian District Office Staffelstein .

In 1856 Jakob Geldner founded a brewery, today's Staffelberg-Bräu . In 1875 Loffeld had 210 residents and 103 buildings. The Catholic school was one kilometer away and the Catholic Church was three kilometers away in Staffelstein. In 1900 the rural community Horsdorf comprised an area of 518.23 hectares, 419 inhabitants, of which 405 were Catholic, and 71 residential buildings. 225 people lived in 39 residential buildings in Loffeld. The Protestant school and church were in Herreth, 10.5 kilometers away .

In 1925, 200 people lived in 40 residential buildings, in 1950 there were 274 residents and 40 residential buildings. In 1970 the place had 262 inhabitants and in 1987 281 inhabitants and 73 residential buildings.

In the 1970s the community of Horsdorf was dissolved and incorporated into the town of Staffelstein. Since then, Loffeld has been a district of Staffelstein. On July 1, 1972, the Staffelstein district was dissolved. Since then, Loffeld has belonged to the Lichtenfels district.

Attractions

The former parish hall , a striking half-timbered building from 1752, stands in the center of the village .

The Catholic branch church was built in 1937 as the "Patrona Bavariae" chapel based on plans by the Lichtenfels architect Josef Bohlein. The altar dates from 1948 and is the work of the artist Gerhart Kraaz .
