Frauendorf is a district of Bad Staffelstein in Upper Franconia in Bavaria . The name of the place goes back to a Banz donation in 1070 to found a women's monastery .

history

The first questionable mention of the place was in 1071 as "Vrouua" under the fiefs of the Bamberg bishops of Mrs. Alberat. The next reliable mention as "Vrowendorf" followed in 1229 in a document from 1233.

On October 1, 1970, the community of Frauendorf, consisting of the parish village of Frauendorf and the hamlet of Krögelhof , was incorporated into the Schwabthal community , which in turn became part of Staffelstein on January 1, 1978.

Attractions

The appearance of the parish village is strikingly shaped by the St. Giles Church, which was designed by the master builder Johann Thomas Nissler . This master builder also carried out the construction work in the Basilica Vierzehnheiligen for Balthasar Neumann, which is why the style of the church is very much based on Vierzehnheiligen.

The first documented mention of a church in Frauendorf was in 1463. A chapel may have been built in the 9th century. In 1758/60 a new building was built, the furnishing work lasted until 1784. The sandstone block building is a two- bay hall church with a single-tower facade and a retracted choir .
