Stadel is a district of the Upper Franconian town of Bad Staffelstein in the Lichtenfels district .

geography

Stadel is about 14 kilometers south of Coburg and nine kilometers west of Lichtenfels in the north of a long triangle between Itz and Main . The place is to the west at the foot of the Banzer Mountains. The high-speed line Nuremberg – Erfurt runs to the west .

history

Stadel was mentioned for the first time in the 9th century in the traditions of the Fulda Monastery , which are based on a copy in the Codex Eberhardi from the 12th century. The next mention is for 1124.

The place name goes back to the Old High German word stadal , which means barn, barn-like building or hostel. 1801 belonged to high centering the Bishopric of Bamberg , the village, municipal, and Lehen- Bailiwick rule the monastery Banz had, the two built-up with house and barn courtyards. In 1862, Stadel and its district of Püchitz were incorporated into the newly created Bavarian district office of Staffelstein .

In 1871 Stadel had 150 residents and 68 buildings. The school and the Catholic Church were in Altenbanz, two kilometers away . In 1900, the two places of the rural community covered an area of ​​574.28 hectares, 268 inhabitants, of whom 251 were Catholic, and 49 residential buildings. 140 people lived in Stadel in 27 residential buildings and in 1925 131 people lived in 21 residential buildings. In 1950 Stadel had 168 residents and 26 residential buildings. In 1970 the place had 131 inhabitants and in 1987 a total of 132 inhabitants and 32 residential buildings.

On July 1, 1972, Stadel merged with its district Püchitz and the neighboring communities of Altenbanz, Nedensdorf , Unnersdorf and parts of Weingarten to form the new community of Banz , which was dissolved on January 1, 1978 and incorporated into the town of Staffelstein. Since then, Stadel has been a district of Staffelstein.

On July 1, 1972, the Staffelstein district was dissolved. Since then, Stadel has been part of the Lichtenfels district. In 1973 the place won the national competition Our village should become more beautiful .
