geography

Freiberg is located on the southern slope in a side valley of the Itzgrund , through which the Eggenbach flows. The village is located in the Banzgau , a long triangle between the Itz and the Main , south of Banz Monastery , and has merged with the neighboring town of Eggenbach.

history

Freiberg had the place name Dürrnberg until the 18th century. The first documentary mention took place in 1500 in an agreement between the abbot Heinrich von Kloster Banz and Eustachius von Rotenhan (zu Ebern) about the sheep hat between the Lohhof and the Rotenhanschen sheep drive to the "Dürrenperg". The Frankish Imperial Knighthood settled its former servants in Freiberg . They gave them a small plot of farmland and exempted them from all taxes.

In 1801 the market town was part of the area of the Bamberg monastery and was controllable by it. It consisted of 21 households and belonged to the barons of Rothenhan. Most of the residents were not farmers, but worked as builders or in other trades.

Until 1843 Freiberg was part of the political municipality of Kaltenbrunn . In 1862 the place was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian District Office Staffelstein . The rural community Freiberg belonged to the regional court Seßlach . In 1871 Freiberg had 145 inhabitants and 35 residential buildings. The school and church for 130 Catholic residents was in Kaltenbrunn, 3.5 kilometers away, and the one for the 15 Protestant residents in Lahm, 2.5 kilometers away . In 1900 the rural community comprised an area of 59.68 hectares, 154 residents and 35 residential buildings. In 1925, 158 people lived in 34 residential buildings. 139 inhabitants were Catholic. In 1950 Freiberg had 154 residents and 29 residential buildings. The school was in Eggenbach . In 1970 the place had 108, in 1987 a total of 121 inhabitants and 31 residential buildings with 31 apartments.

On July 1, 1972, the Staffelstein district was dissolved and Freiberg was incorporated into the Coburg district. On January 1, 1975, the Coburg district ceded the municipality to the Lichtenfels district. There it was incorporated into Eggenbach . Freiberg has belonged to Ebensfeld as a district since January 1st, 1978.
