history

Ummersberg was first mentioned in the 9th century as "Vmannenberc" owned by Fulda servants in a copy of the Banz Imperial Urbar made around 1160. Around 1093, Bishop Rupert from Bamberg donated the Ummanesberch settlement to Michelsberg Monastery . In 1468 it belonged to the real estate of the Bamberg cathedral chapter. In 1496 Jakob von Füllbach zu Gleusdorf took his part in the wood at "Umersberg" from the Würzburg bishop as a fief. After the lords of Fulbach died out at the end of the 16th century, the fiefdom fell back to the Würzburg bishop. In 1613 the Würzburg bishop Julius enfeoffed the Lords of Lichtenstein with a court and a Selde at "Vmersberg bei Cleußdorff". Ummersberg was owned by the Barons von Lichtenstein zu Lahm until the 19th century and then came into civil ownership. The name of the farm is based on the mountain of the same name.

In 1801 Ummersberg was described as a knightly place located in the district of the Döringstadt office , where the Banzische Schloss Cleusdorf has a forest and some fields.

In 1862 Ummersberg was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian District Office Staffelstein as a place of the rural community of Messenfeld . The rural community belonged to the Staffelstein District Court . In 1871 the Ummersberg wasteland had seven residents and seven buildings. The Catholic Church was in Döringstadt , 3.2 kilometers away , and the Catholic school in Birkach, one kilometer away . In 1872 the doctor August Swaine had the castle-like house built on the farm and a park laid out.

In 1900 the places of the rural community of Messenfeld covered an area of 350.23 hectares, 138 inhabitants, of whom 136 were Catholic, and 25 residential buildings. Eight people lived in Ummersberg in two residential buildings and in 1925 19 people lived in one residential building. The evangelical parish responsible was in Lahm, five kilometers away . In 1950 Ummersberg had 25 residents and three residential buildings. In 1970 the wasteland had six residents, and in 1987 a total of eight residents as well as a residential building with one apartment.

On July 1, 1972, the Staffelstein district was dissolved. Ummersberg was incorporated with Messenfeld in the Lichtenfels district and Ebensfeld was added as part of the municipality.
