history

It is assumed that the first Ebingers descended from the Wends and that Ebing was founded long before Charlemagne (768–814 AD). It was first mentioned in a document around 800 and is therefore older than the city of Bamberg . This emerges from the documents of the Fulda monastery , in which Ebing is still referred to as "Eibingen".

As can be seen from the documents, three Franconian nobles donated their goods to the Fulda monastery . Eibingen was one of them. The church wall consists of the remains of the castle wall that have been preserved from the castle of the nobles of Ebing. The moat is filled in. A schoolhouse was built on the bottom of the two massive gate walls that stood until 1857.

Belonging to the Fulda monastery existed until the archbishopric of Bamberg was founded by King Heinrich II in 1007, after which Ebing was assigned to the Michelsberg monastery .

In the Thirty Years War (1618-1648) Ebing was looted and burned by the Swedes. It was also not spared in the Seven Years' War (1756–1763) and in the coalition wars (1799–1815).

In 1872 Ebing was granted market rights after having become an independent parish a year earlier. The village developed more and more from a rural to a rural residential community. In this context, the leisure facilities such as the Ebinger Baggersee, the sports field and the campsite were created.

With the regional reform in Bavaria , Ebing was incorporated into Rattelsdorf on May 1, 1978 . Ebingen citizens and local councilors insisted on the independence of their place. The majority resolutions in the Rattelsdorf municipal council in 1990 (10: 7), 1993 (9: 7) and 1997 (9: 7) for Ebing to become self-employed failed due to the two-thirds majority stipulated in the Bavarian municipal code. In 1995, a citizens' initiative, Self-employed Ebing, was founded, but has since disbanded.

Ebing helmet

In 1964, a bronze helmet from the Urnfield Period (1200 to 700 BC) was found during excavation work in a gravel works east of Ebing . It is believed that a settlement existed there long before 800. Further finds in the Ebing area provided evidence of a late Bronze Age cultural center in this area. The "Ebing helmet" was given to the Prehistoric State Collection in Munich . A replica can be seen in the Historical Museum in Bamberg .

coat of arms

On March 1, 1951, the then First Mayor Kümmelmann was presented with the coat of arms awarded by the government at a citizens' meeting. The description of the coat of arms reads: "In red a silver flight in the arm, holding a silver stick of St. James covered with a silver shell". The St. James stick with shell refers to the church patron Jakobus , the silver flight to the wings of the Archangel Michael (since 1007 Ebing belonged to the Michelsberg monastery in Bamberg).
