Player career

Steffen Hamann started playing basketball at the age of nine. He played in youth teams in Rattelsdorf, Kemmern , Bamberg and Breitengüßbach . From 1998 he played at TSV Breitengüßbach in the 2nd division and from 1999 at TTL uniVersa Bamberg (today Brose Bamberg ) in the basketball league . Until 2003 he played with a double license in both teams, subsequently only in Bamberg.

At the beginning of the 2006/07 season Hamann moved to Climamio Bologna in Italy , but returned to Bamberg at the beginning of January 2007, as he got too little playing time after a coach change in Bologna . Hamann was German basketball champion with Bamberg in 2005 and 2007 . In June 2008 Hamann signed a three-year contract with ALBA Berlin . The move to Alba Berlin was a bit of a sensation, because before that, Hamann was regarded by Alba fans as a kind of bogeyman . After the 2009/2010 season, Hamann's contract with Alba was dissolved and he signed a three-year contract with ProA league club FC Bayern Munich, where he worked again (as in Bamberg and in the national team) with coach Dirk Bauermann . At the end of his first season, Hamann was promoted to the Bundesliga with the team. With FC Bayern München Basketball, Steffen Hamann became German basketball champion in 2014 and acted as team captain. After winning the championship, his contract in Munich was not extended.

For the 2014/15 season he moved to the second division Bike-Cafe Messingschlager Baunach . There he ended his career as a basketball player after the 2014/15 season. Hamann later played for TSV 1860 Rosenheim in the old man's area and became German champions with the team.

National team

Hamann made his debut in the national team on January 22, 2003 in Koblenz against Macedonia . His greatest success at international level was 5th place at the 2007 European Championships . Between 2003 and 2011 Hamann played a total of 131 international matches, 75 of which were won. He achieved an average of 5.03 points per game. In June 2013 Hamann announced his resignation from the national team.

Coaching career

After the end of his playing career, Hamann sat in on the youth team at FC Bayern Munich. From the 2016/17 season he was assistant coach of the FCB's U14 boys' team, and in the summer of 2017 he took over as head coach. In September 2019 he obtained the A-trainer license.
