The TSV Breitengüßbach eV is a sports club from Breitengüßbach near Bamberg in Upper Franconia, the most successful department in basketball is active. The focus of the activity is on promoting young talent. In the men's teams, youth players, who mostly come from the region, are given playing time to develop. The first men's team plays in the 1. Regionalliga Südost, the youth team U19 in the youth basketball league (NBBL). The association cooperates with Brose Bamberg in promoting young talent .

history

The association has existed in its current form since 1946 and was created from a merger of two associations that had existed in the town since the 1920s. The founding departments were gymnastics , wrestling and football . The basketball department has existed since 1973. Today the club has 1,100 members and the basketball department around 300 members.

The men's basketball team finished the 2007/08 season in 9th place in the table, the male U19 basketball team reached the final tournament of the German youth championship. In the 2011/2012 season, the male U 19 basketball team in the Enervie-Arena in Hagen became German champions. In the 2013/2014 season, the JBBL team of TSV Tröster Breitengüßbach became vice German champions.

After 23 years of membership in the second division, the first basketball team of TSV Tröster Breitengüßbach was relegated from the ProB at the end of the 2012/2013 season . The team was too seldom competitive. Over the summer of 2013, the concept of promoting young talent should be revised in order to be able to cope with a successful new start in the regional league. Since another club, FC Baunach, which works with Brose Bamberg, first rose from the regional league to the ProB (2013) and from the ProB to the ProA (2014), Breitengüßbach lost its position as the “first youth development team” of the Bamberg youth network Men's area. In the first Regionalliga season 2013/14 they reached eighth place with a record of twelve wins and 14 defeats. From this season the Croatian Ivan Djerman played for Upper Franconia and should be the team's top performer until his retirement in 2016. In the following season they were seventh in the table with a record of eleven wins and 15 defeats. In the 2015/16 season it was twelfth in the final table.

With Erik Land , Alexander Heide , Alexander Engel and Dimitry McDuffie, four players returned to Breitengüßbach's men's team for the 2016/17 season, some of whom had gained experience in the professional field. The season ended in fifth place in the table.
