Tim Ohlbrecht (born August 30, 1988 in Wuppertal , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a German basketball player. He is 2.10 m tall and is used in the positions small forward , power forward and center .

youth

After a short time as a footballer (goalkeeper) at Bayer 04 Leverkusen , he began his basketball career at Barmer TV in the youth league. But people quickly became aware of him - not only because of his height - and he was soon playing with a double license for VSTV Wuppertal in the youth class of the NRW League. Via the selection team of the West German Basketball Association, he quickly aroused the interest of larger clubs. TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen made the race for the boy who had meanwhile become a youth national player. Although he was only 15 years old, he played and trained in the U18 NRW League team under coach Katrin Hering and in the men's district league. At the age of 16, he played in the men's upper league and regional league alongside the youth team.

BBL

At the age of 17 he was a top performer in the regional league and had already trained with the Bundesliga team of Bayer Giants Leverkusen and coach Achim Kuczmann . As a result of the sparse playing times in the Bundesliga in Leverkusen, he decided to move to Bamberg at the end of the season. In the course of the pre-season he injured himself and was not back in the squad until the end of the regular season. In the semi-final series, Chris Ensminger was injured and coach Dirk Bauermann gave the youngster a chance. Tim Ohlbrecht gave the team important impulses from the bench and celebrated the German championship with the team.

In the 07/08 season , Tim was part of the fixed rotation of the Brose Baskets and celebrated his Eurocup premiere in the top European league, the Euroleague .

Tim was the best rebounder at the 2006 U18 European Championship in Greece with an average of 13 rebounds.

At the beginning of 2008 he made his debut in the German national team and took part in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, for which Germany won third place in the qualifying tournament with a 96-82 victory in the game for third place over Puerto Rico in Athens had qualified.

In the 2008/09 season he grew up to be one of several leading players for Brose Baskets. He was chosen by the fans as the starting center in the top five of the southern selection at the Bundesliga All-Star Day 2009 in Mannheim. There he advanced to the top scorer of the entire encounter with 18 points and an almost perfect throwing yield. The MVP title was denied to him because he did not come from the winning team. His former teammate Darren Fenn received the title .

In February 2009 he appeared as an expert in paper ball basketball on the Galileo program on Pro7 .

In April 2009, Ohlbrecht signed up for the 2009 NBA draft . However, he withdrew the registration in order to gain another year of experience in Germany.

For the 2009/10 season, Tim Ohlbrecht signed a contract for 2 years with the Telekom Baskets Bonn , where he became the starting appointed power forward to more experiences there on his way to the NBA to be able to collect.

Tim Ohlbrecht was voted into the starting five of the southern selection of the All-Star Games in the 2009/10 season by the fans of the basketball Bundesliga . However, he was unable to attend for a short time due to an upset stomach.

After two years in Bonn, Ohlbrecht did not receive a new contract from Telekom Baskets. He then signed a preliminary contract until December 2011 with Fraport Skyliners from Frankfurt, which was extended until the end of the 2011/12 season. Due to the reduced budget, Ohlbrecht and the Skyliners from Frankfurt could not agree on another contract for the 2012/13 season. ALBA Berlin was also interested in Tim Ohlbrecht for the new season, but they couldn't agree on a contract.

D-League and NBA

Ohlbrecht remained without a new club until November 2012 and finally signed up for the draft of the NBA Development League . There he was selected in the first round at position 14 by the Springfield Armor and a few days later sent to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in exchange for Ben Uzoh . In 2013 he was invited to the D-League All-Star Game due to his achievements.

On February 25, 2013, Tim Ohlbrecht received an NBA contract with the Houston Rockets . On March 3, 2013 Ohlbrecht made his NBA debut against the Dallas Mavericks and scored his first three NBA points when he was fouled in the last minute of a successful lay-up and also converted the subsequent free throw. For the Rockets, Ohlbrecht completed a total of three games. In the period that followed, Ohlbrecht was unable to collect playing time with the Rockets as he had hoped due to a foot injury and was transferred to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers squad again at the beginning of April 2013 to gain match practice there. With the Vipers, Ohlbrecht reached the final of the D-League championship on April 21. In the final, the Vipers eventually defeated the Santa Cruz Warriors and celebrated the 2013 championship.

During the summer break, the Rockets tried to get star center Dwight Howard , who eventually signed a contract in Houston. The Rockets then dissolved the contract with Ohlbrecht as an option to make room in the squad. He was then signed by the Philadelphia 76ers for the 2013-14 season . However, this contract was terminated on October 15, 2013 by the 76ers, so that Ohlbrecht did not play a championship game for the 76ers.

At the end of November 2013 it was announced that Ohlbrecht would return to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the D-League. In March 2014, he moved within the D-League to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants . With the Mad Ants, Ohlbrecht once again made it into the final of the D-League championship. There the Mad Ants defeated the Santa Cruz Warriors and Ohlbrecht was able to celebrate his second championship in the D-League.

Return to the BBL

After Ohlbrecht could not recommend himself for a position in an NBA team for the 2014/15 season, he announced that he would be moving back to Europe. He eventually returned to Germany and joined the first division team Ratiopharm Ulm . With the club he reached the playoff semifinals of the basketball Bundesliga and scored an average of 12.1 points and 5.3 rebounds in 40 games this season. In addition, he completed six assignments in the European “EuroChallenge” competition for Ulm.

For the 2015/16 season, Ohlbrecht moved to Russia, where he joined the Enisey Krasnoyarsk club, with whom he played in the Russian VTB league and in the FIBA Europe Cup . On June 30, 2016, Bundesliga team Ratiopharm Ulm announced Ohlbrecht's commitment. He returned to an old place of work and received a two-year contract. Due to a knee injury, he had to sit out for a long time and returned to the field at the end of December 2017 after a break of more than a year. The contract at Ratiopharm Ulm expired on June 30, 2018.
