Eurocup 2015/16

The season 2015/16 was the first season of the FIBA Europe discharged FIBA Europe Cup , the successor of the Euro Challenge .

The Fraport Skyliners from Germany won the title . It was the first time a German team had won a European Cup since 2010, when BG Göttingen won the EuroChallenge and the fourth ever European Cup win by a German team.

mode

In the first group stage, 56 teams in 14 groups (A – N) played against each other in home and away games until each team had played six games. The two best teams in each group and the four best thirds from all groups qualified for the second group stage. This group stage was held in two regional conferences in order to reduce travel and travel costs for the clubs. In the second group phase, the 32 remaining teams played against each other in 8 groups (O – V) in home and away games until each team had played six games. The two best teams in each group qualified for the round of 16. The application of two regional conferences as in the first group phase was not practiced here.

In a " Best of Three " mode , the remaining 16 teams competed against each other in eight team encounters in the round of 16. The first in the group from the second phase enjoyed home rights in a possibly required third play-off game. The eight teams that won these duels qualified for the quarter-finals. The same rules applied there as in the round of 16. The four teams that won these duels qualified for the final tournament.

In a tournament that took place within a weekend, two teams each competed in semifinals. The winners qualified for the final, from which the winner of the FIBA Europe Cup emerged.

1st group stage

The first group stage matches took place between October 27 and December 2, 2015.

In order to reduce travel distances and the resulting costs for the teams, two regional conferences were played:

For teams with the same number of wins, it was not the total point ratio that was decisive for the group placements, but only the added result in a direct comparison of the teams with one another.
