Danilo Timon Barthel (born October 24, 1991 in Heidelberg ) is a German basketball player . After Barthel made his debut in the senior team of his home club USC Heidelberg in the second-highest division ProA at the age of 17 , the junior selection player switched to the first division club Skyliners Frankfurt in 2011 . In the summer of 2014 she made her debut in the German men's national team. From 2016 to 2020 he was under contract with FC Bayern Munich , in summer 2020 he moved to Fenerbahçe Istanbul .

Career

Barthel already completed 16 missions in the ProA 2008/09 with an average of almost twelve minutes per game for the senior team of USC Heidelberg in the second highest German league ProA. The old master reached twelfth place in the final table and improved from eleventh place in 2010 to eighth place in 2011 in the division, which was then played without play-offs . Barthel also played in the NBBL 2009/10 for the junior team Rhein-Neckar Basket College , with which, however, he did not reach the NBBL final tournament . As the only player in his junior team, in which his three years younger Heidelberg club mate Paul Zipser made his debut for a single game, he was nominated in January 2010 for the all-star game of the U19 youth league, in which the southern selection with Barthel won . With the Heidelberg team in the ProA, the youth selection player was only able to increase his playing time and effectiveness slightly until 2011. At the U20 European Championship finals in 2011, however, the German junior selection with Barthel won the games of the placement round after losing the quarter-finals against the eventual bronze medalist France and improved to fifth place after the U18 selection two years earlier could not occupy one of the top eight places.

For the 2011/12 season, Barthel was signed by the first division club Fraport Skyliners from Frankfurt am Main . Here he played primarily in the second team, which consisted to a large extent of juniors like Barthel, in the ProB 2011/12 , in which the team barely managed to stay in the relegation round against the reserve team of the first division club Alba, which also consisted of youngsters Berlin . Barthel was named Youngster of the Month in the ProB for March 2012, while his future Frankfurt team-mate Richie Williams was named Player of the Month . After Barthel had just missed the play-offs for the championship in the first division team of the Skyliners in ninth place in the basketball Bundesliga 2011/12 , with a double license had already 15 appearances in the top division, Barthel belonged in basketball -Bundesliga 2012/13 with a good 17 minutes per game to the regular staff of the first division club, which however slipped to 14th place in the final table. In the basketball Bundesliga 2013/14 the Frankfurt team improved to eleventh place under coach returnees Gordon Herbert with the same number of wins. Barthel was able to increase his playing time to just under 28 minutes per game and was also significantly more effective than in the previous season, which earned him the award as the player with the best development ( Most Improved Player ) in the top German division, during his six months of younger, former juniors -National team-mate Daniel Theis received the award for the best young player . Both players were invited to the NBA Summer League , in which Barthel could not recommend himself in the jersey of the NBA runner-up Miami Heat . At the end of July 2014, Barthel had his first appearance in the men's national team in the 74:67 success in the preparatory game over Finland in Leipzig . In contrast to Theis, who played in the same position, the then national coach Emir Mutapčić, as with Tim Ohlbrecht , refrained from further appearances of Barthel, who had only recently returned, in the qualification for the 2015 European Championship finals .

After a difficult start to the season with many injuries, the Skyliners were able to play their way back into the play-off area at the end of the first half of the 2014/15 basketball Bundesliga and Barthel received an invitation to the BBL All-Star Game for the German selection.

In 2016 he won the FIBA Europe Cup with Frankfurt . In July 2016 he moved to FC Bayern Munich and signed for two years. In the 2017/18 game year he won the German championship with FCB and was involved in the success in 48 season games with an average of 9.7 points and 4.5 rebounds. In the five decisive games for the title against Alba Berlin , Barthel was in top form and was named the best player in the final series. He also won the German Cup with Munich. He then extended his contract in Munich until 2020. In the run-up to the 2018/19 game year, he was appointed team captain at FCB. In 2018/19 Barthel was again German champion with Munich. During the successful season he started 39 times in his 41 Bundesliga appearances and averaged 11.9 points per encounter.

In the summer of 2020, he started his first international assignment with his move to Fenerbahçe Istanbul .
