The 2015 European Basketball Championship (officially: EuroBasket 2015) was the 39th edition of this tournament. It took place from 5. – 20. September in Germany , France , Croatia and Latvia . Ukraine was initially chosen as the host, but after the military unrest in that country the tournament was re-awarded.
The European Basketball Championship is a biennial basketball competition between European national teams that is organized by Munich- based FIBA Europe , the European Basketball Federation.
Allocation of the orientation
Initially, there were two applications to host the 2015 European Championship, Ukraine and a joint application from Germany , France , Italy and Croatia . Shortly before the decision was announced by FIBA Europa in mid-December 2011, however, the joint application withdrew it. The reason given was irreconcilable differences with the continental association, which changed the competition criteria at short notice and a. demanded a firm sponsorship commitment of four million euros. As a result, the Ukraine remained the only applicant, which was then accepted on December 18, 2011.
Due to the unstable political situation in Ukraine , which began in November 2013, FIBA Europe announced on February 26, 2014 that it would be "discussing" the hosting of the European Championship and finally decided on June 13, 2014 to withdraw the hosting of the Ukraine .
In August 2014, eight nations, namely Croatia , Finland , Israel , Latvia , Poland , France , Turkey and Germany applied for the re-award of the event. Applications for a group in the group stage, a group in the intermediate round and the final round, the final round or the entire tournament were possible. On September 8, 2014, FIBA Europe announced that for the first time a European Championship will be held in several countries. The preliminary rounds take place in Germany, France, Croatia and Latvia. The final round will be played in France.
