The Italian national basketball team is the selection of players from the Italian basketball federation FIP ( Federazione Italiana Pallacanestro ). She takes part in international national competitions for Italy and to date (as of September 2013) has competed eight times in basketball world championships , eleven times in the Olympic Games and 34 times in European championships .

Her greatest successes were two Olympic silver medals in 1980 in Moscow and 2004 in Athens as well as two European championships, won in France in 1983 and 1999 . The team won both European Championship finals against Spain .
