The men's basketball championship 2013 (officially: EuroBasket 2013 ) was the 38th edition of this tournament and was held in Slovenia from September 4th to 22nd, 2013 . The host was chosen in December 2010, in addition to the German Basketball Federation , five other associations, Bosnia-Herzegovina , Croatia , the Czech Republic , Italy and Slovenia, were interested in the event. On September 5, 2010, FIBA Europe announced that only Slovenia and Italy applied for the event. For the first time in the history of the tournament, France won the title.
The European Basketball Championship is a biennial basketball competition between European national teams that is organized by Munich-based FIBA Europe , the European Basketball Association.
Venues
The group matches were played in Jesenice , Ljubljana ( Hala Tivoli ), Celje and Koper . The games of the second round as well as the final round in the knockout system took place in the Arena Stožice in Ljubljana.

Attendees
A total of 24 teams took part in EuroBasket 2013 and qualified for the tournament in different ways.
Slovenia was automatically eligible to participate as host; Furthermore, the three European participants in the 2012 Olympic Games and the four European participants in the pre-Olympic qualification tournament qualified directly for the EuroBasket 2013.

From August 15 to September 11, 2012, the other 16 participants were selected from 31 participating countries. The two best teams from each of the six groups qualified. There were also the four best third-placed.

Preliminary round
In the preliminary round, six teams played against each other in four groups. The winner of a game received two points, the loser one point. In the event of a tie, the placement was made by comparing the points of the direct encounters and, if necessary, by comparing the basket conditions. On November 18, 2012, the following groups were drawn in the Postojna Caves :

Intermediate round
After the preliminary round, the first three teams in each group qualified for the intermediate round. The three teams in groups A and B formed group E, the qualified teams in groups C and D formed the new group F (both in Ljubljana). Each team met once against each of the three teams from the other preliminary group. From the preliminary round games, the points that were scored against qualified teams were continued.

Final round
mode
After the intermediate round, the first four teams of both groups E and F qualified for the final round. The quarter-finals were played crosswise against an opponent from the other intermediate round group. Then both the winners of the quarter-finals met in the semifinals, as well as the losers in the placement round for places five to eight. The winners of the semi-finals contested the final, the losers the game for third place. The winners of the placement games played for fifth place, the losers for seventh place.
All games took place in the 12,480-seat Arena Stožice in Ljubljana .
