The 2005 European Women's Basketball Championship ( officially: Eurobasket Women 2005 ) took place from September 2nd to 11th, 2005 in Turkey . It was the 30th European Championships.
The European Basketball Championship is a biennial basketball competition between European teams and is organized by FIBA Europe, the basketball association in Europe.
Venues
The preliminary round matches took place in Bursa and İzmir . From the quarter-finals onwards, Ankara was played.
Preliminary round
In the preliminary round, six teams played against each other in two groups. The winner of a game received two points, the loser one point. If a game was tied at the end of regular time, there was extra time.

mode
After the preliminary round, the first four teams in each group qualified for the quarter-finals. Then both the winners of the quarter-finals met in the semifinals, as well as the losers in the "small semifinals". The winners of the semi-finals met in the final, the losers in the game for 3rd place. The winners of the "small semifinals" played for 5th place, the losers for 7th place. The last two of the two preliminary round groups played for 9th to 4th place 12.

Honors
The Russian Marija Stepanowa was chosen as the best player of the tournament (MVP) . In a total of eight games, Stepanova averaged 18 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2 blocks per game. He had a hit rate of 53.1% (60 of 113) from the field and 80.0% (24 of 30) from the free-throw line.
In addition to Stepanova, her teammate Tatjana Schtschogolewa , Amaya Valdemoro from Spain and the two Czechs Hana Machová and Eva Vítečková were elected to the all-tournament team .
