The Wey is a short river in Dorset , South West England. The river has its source in the South Downs , a ridge of the chalk hills that separate Weymouth from Dorchester . Most of the river's course is in the Weymouth catchment area. The Wey runs through the former villages and current suburbs of Upwey, Broadwey and Radipole, through Radipole Lake to the port of Weymouth.
The river is important for wildlife, and Radipole Lake is a nature reserve maintained by the Royal Society for the Conservation of Birds .
