The 1956 European Basketball Championship for women (officially: EuroBasket 1956 Women ) was the 5th edition of the continental competition. It took place from June 2nd to June 10th 1956 in Czechoslovakia and was organized by FIBA Europe . The games were played in Prague .

The two best placed in each group made it to the final round and fought for the medals. The remaining teams determined places 9 to 16 in the placement round.
